Senate Minority Leader Jones announces bipartisan agreement to audit Liberty Healthcare’s state contract for managing SVPs

Today, Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones (R-San Diego) announced he reached an agreement with Democrat leadership on his request that the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) authorize an audit of Liberty Healthcare’slong-running exclusive contract to manage the Sexually Violent Predator Conditional Release Program (SVP CONREP) currently overseen by the Department of State Hospitals (DSH).

“East Coast based-Liberty Healthcare sneaks into unsuspecting communities up and down California and employs a disturbing placement strategy known as ‘Hide the Predator,’ where the homes they lease for SVPs are kept secret from neighbors, school officials, and even local law enforcement,” said Leader Jones.

“I’m pleased to share that Democrat leadership in the California Legislature understands the need to audit Liberty Healthcare’s management of SVPs. We reached an agreement that will allow the audit request to move forward with minor changes and we welcome the bipartisan support for the audit.”

While Jones’s Liberty Healthcare audit request was initially set to be heard at the JLAC hearing this Wednesday, March 22, 2023, the negotiated amendments will delay the hearing until June, per JLAC’s operational policy.
