Today, Senate Minority Leader Brian W. Jones (R-San Diego) issued the following statement on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s latest action on the ongoing Tijuana River Valley sewage pollution crisis:
“This crisis has plagued San Diego communities for over three decades and has compounded to require this sort of decisive action in order to spare families living in the area from the toxic threat they live with today in the Tijuana River Valley.
I was on the ground in the area last week, breathing in the noxious fumes that our communities are exposed to daily, and I can tell you firsthand this is a true crisis – both environmentally and from a public health perspective.
It’s refreshing to see our partners at the U.S. EPA under the current administration paying attention to and acting on the very real environmental hazards around us and I look forward to participating in continued partnership across local, state, federal and Mexican parties to ensure the promises of today come to fruition and make a real, lasting impact in our community.”
Leader Jones has been engaged in the Tijuana River Valley and working toward addressing the sewage pollution crisis for over a decade. He remains committed to ensuring the safety of families in the surrounding communities.
